Here’s Holy Trinity, a small Lutheran church in Terryville, Connecticut. This is where I was baptized in April of 1990. When I turned five, I remember being fascinated with the altar. I thought it looked alive and castle-like. It was assumed by me that the arch behind the statue of Christ led to some miniature rooms that were off limits. Clearly I was a crazy nut.
I later learned that the altar was commissioned by a French Catholic parish, but then they ended up not being able to pay for it later on, so my old church bought it and had it installed instead. Perhaps that’s where my interest in Roman altars came from.
